Intro Workshops 2026

The majority of our workshops get fully booked well ahead, so please book early to secure your place.

We have a couple more opportunities to attend a a workshop:

Sunday 26th April 2026 – Devon – Early Bird rate ends on 28th Feb.

Sat 30th May 2026 – Bristol – Early Bird Rate ends 3rd April.

These day workshops are open to all – no prior experience or knowledge needed, just an interest in moving and learning about the felt sense of the body. Have time to land and move; be guided to begin to connect with some of the structure of our bodies, as you breathe and take some time to settle your attention.

What did you particularly value about the event?
The calm, knowledgeable teacher. The gentle approach using guidance with the movement. The balance between practice, sharing, group work, individual work and information.
The workshop was amazing, thank you very much.

How would you describe the event to someone else?
An introduction to the IBMT course where they give a taster of all the different modules through both information and practice. A very warm, welcoming and friendly space.

The workshop will give you an experience of an IBMT training day and our approach to somatic movement work. We’ll draw on some elements of the diploma programme: Embodied Anatomy, Infant Movement, Authentic Movement. You’ll get the chance to move, share, draw and practice some simple hands-on techniques.

The introductory workshops are also a prerequisite for those interested in joining us for a future module. They give participants an experience of a training day with IBMT, and how we interweave embodied explorations and reflections, theoretical study and partner work.

IBMT Summer Gathering   17-19th  July 2026, Devon UK

A message from organisers, Ali & Laurence.

Calling all IBMT peers!   Are your cells, bones, soma and psyche in need of some IBMT rejuvenation?

This year’s ‘new look’ peer organised IBMT Summer Gathering will take place at Ashprington Village Hall, Devon  from July 17th – 19th from  6pm Friday to 4pm Sunday.

Our intentions are Circle, Community, Resourcing.

We are offering an opportunity for past and present students of IBMT to rest into our shared practice and the familiar rhythms of an IBMT weekend so that we may leave feeling refreshed and reenergised.

Included in the cost of the weekend will be a simple supper as we gather on the Friday evening as well as shared lunches in the hall on Saturday and Sunday. Accommodation is not included. Graduates of the IBMT Diploma will be invited to run sessions throughout the weekend, drawing on IBMT themes and practices.

This is for all past and present students of IBMT. If you have completed at least one module from the Diploma programme or the first year of the embodied anatomy module you are welcome to join us.   This will be an opportunity to reconnect with people with whom you have shared your IBMT learning and to meet new folk too.

Last year was fabulous!  This is a grassroots initiative that needs your energy to book early to ensure its momentum into fruition …we’re looking for 10 people to sign up and pay a deposit of £45 by Easter and would greatly appreciate your spreading the word with your IBMT friends and colleagues.

Once again, your organisers are Ali ROSE and Laurence Yeoman but the weekend will be a co-created space.

Somatic Psychology 2026

In October 2026 we begin our Somatic Psychology module – students already enrolled in the Diploma programme will continue with this module, but there are a few places available to those with at least 100 hours of somatic movement experience.

The closing date for Applications is 15 May 2026. We will then review all applications received and notify you by 1st June 2026 if we are able to offer you a place.

The module seeks to give language and meaning to the fluid and organic experiences of somatic process, enabling us to dialogue and interact meaningfully with material arising from the unconscious in bodywork and movement therapy practice.

Over 6 long weekends of study seminars look at:

  • embryology and the roots of the sense of self and attachment patterns
  • psychological models emerging out of somatic and pre and perinatal process, including both theory and practice.
  • the role of the therapist and their embodied presence in relationship to the client, including somatic skills of listening, supporting, witnessing, containing and processing.
  • setting up a somatic movement professional practice, the support of ISMETA’s Scope of Practice & Code of Ethics.

The module has been updated and extended to include Somatic approaches for Trauma:

  • Drawing from the latest theories and practice for working with nervous system imprints and early developmental trauma.
  • Specific bodywork practices for trauma. Including hyper and hypo activation as well as polyvagal theory and practice.
  • Developing presence skills in practice from work of Merete Holm Brandberg.
